The AHS Radon Hunt project began as part of the open call for citizen science projects funded in the framework of WP6 for radon testing and mitigation. The main objective of the AHS Radon Hunt is to assess the need to reduce radon concentration levels in Warsaw city and the Silesia region in Poland by conducting indoor radon concentration in school buildings, houses, underground mines and tourist routes as well as comparing radon in tap water in different regions with radon in radon water sold for drinking in spa resorts. The project seeks to improve the science curriculum in high schools to include radon education, as this is almost non-existent. To achieve these objectives, the project directly engages 15 Akademeia High School (AHS) students as citizen scientists to: 1) conduct measurements including in students’ homes and those of peers; 2) invite people from the local communities to measure radon; 3) record the trainings, initial measurements, final field work, and data analysis for the purpose of sharing knowledge with other teenagers; 4) use social media to share the project’s activities and experiences with peers.

In this light, they have released a new video showcasing their activities and achievements. This project has successfully managed to motivate high school students to engage in protection against radon. More information on this project and other citizen science projects are available on the citizen science website.
