EURAMED
European Alliance for Medical Radiation Protection Research – Leading European research activities in medical radiation protection and harmonising clinical practice to advance the European radiation protection safety culture in medicine
Radon and Health
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It has no smell, colour or taste. Radon is produced from the natural radioactive decay of uranium, which is found in all rocks and soil. Radon can also be found in water.
About radon
Radon gas escapes easily from rocks and soils into the air and tends to concentrate in enclosed spaces, such as underground mines, houses, and other buildings.
About NORM
Naturally-Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) – radioactive materials which occur naturally and where human activities increase the exposure of people to ionising radiation.
ENA
European NORM association (ENA) – Promote and advance radiation protection in the context of exposure to NORM by operating as a European platform and forum for discussion, dissemination and exchange of information, by supporting scientific knowledge and new directions of research related to NORM issues.
ERA
European Radon Association (ERA) – improving awareness and reducing risk of radon exposure across Europe.
Radioecology exchange website
This website is the hub for information related to European radioecological research, maintained by the European Radioecology Alliance.
ILMARI
ILMARI – Aerosol physics, chemistry and toxicology research unit at UEF, Department of Environmental and Biological Scientists. They carry out combined exposures (experience on eg. EMF plus combustion emissions).
UNSCEAR
United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR) published in 2020 the report in Sources, Effects and Risks of Ionizing Radiation devoted to the Lung Cancer from Exposure To Radon.
