A new paper on radon-related health risks other than lung cancer among German uranium miners has been published in Occupational & Environmental Medicine by Nora Fenske, Veronika Deffner, Maria Schnelzer and Michaela Kreuzer (BfS). The findings of the German uranium miners cohort indicate small increased risks for a few selected outcomes, in particular for the group of all cancers other than lung cancer and ischemic heart diseases. However, overall the study does not provide convincing evidence for an increased radon-related risk for other diseases than lung cancer, which is in line with previous findings in RadoNorm (Henyoh et al. 2024, Front. Public Health). Parts of this work were completed as part of RadoNorm, task 4.2 “Radon-related risks other than lung cancer among adults” of WP4 (Effects and Risks), and comparable analyses are currently performed in the large pooled uranium miners analysis (PUMA) as part of RadoNorm.
