From 30th March to 4th April 2025, researchers from around the world gathered in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, for the 11th International Conference on Methods and Applications of Radioanalytical Chemistry (MARC XI). The conference provided a key platform for sharing cutting-edge developments in radioanalytical techniques and their applications to environmental and nuclear sciences.
Representing the RadoNorm project, Gianni Vettese (University of Helsinki) presented his latest findings on the mobility and fate of naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) in bioheap leaching environments. His research explores the geochemical behaviour of radionuclides in bioleaching processes and their implications for sustainable mining and radiation protection.
Attending MARC XI offered Gianni the opportunity to engage with leading experts in radiochemistry, exchange ideas with fellow researchers, and gain valuable feedback on his work. The discussions and collaborations initiated at the conference will further strengthen the integration of his findings within RadoNorm’s broader objectives.
