In the framework of WP2, a new open access publication has come out in the Journal “Science of the Total Environment” by G. Venoso, C. Nuccetelli, C. Di Carlo, F. Trotti, R. Ugolini, R. Trevisi, F. Leonardi and L. Urso from the institutes ISS, ARPAV, INAIL and BfS. The paper titled Development of a methodology for assessing radiological dose due to use of NORM sludge as fertilizer sheds light on how to better assess the dose that results from sludge originating from groundwater filtration facilities, that is commonly use as fertiliser, and known to contain naturally occurring radionuclides (NORs). The study aimed to develop a methodology to obtain so-called “operational levels”, which reflect the activity concentrations of NORs (in kBq/kg) for which a dose criterion of 1 mSv/year is complied with. More details can be found in the article online.
