Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority
STUK is national authority supervising nuclear safety, security of nuclear materials, the safety of the use of radiation and monitoring of radiation in the environment. STUK is also carrying out research and development activities promoting radiation and nuclear safety and participates in international cooperation. STUK is the competent authority for extraction, use and disposal of NORM, radioactivity in construction products and radon at workplaces. STUK supervises practice that causes exposure to natural radiation. The scientific expertise in RadoNorm covers health effects of radiation, epidemiology, radiation biology, metrology, radiation chemistry, engineering physics, geochemistry and environmental science.
