Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety

The Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) is the French national public expert in nuclear and radiological risks. As a research and expert appraisal organization, IRSN contributes to the implementation of public policies concerning nuclear safety and security and health and environmental protection against ionizing radiation. IRSN runs radiological environmental monitoring programmes and assesses the exposure levels faced by population, patients and workers exposed to ionising radiation for both planned and emergency operations. In the event of a crisis, IRSN provides assessments and measurements of the contamination levels of both people and the environment.
