RadoNorm is excited to announce its participation as a co-organizer of the upcoming International Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities in Ionising Radiation Research (RICOMET). The conference is scheduled to take place in Dessel, Belgium from August 30 to September 1, 2023. This event will shed light on the societal aspects of radon and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) and promises to be of great interest to RadoNorm stakeholders.

There are several noteworthy events taking place at RICOMET2023 that we would like to draw your attention to:

  • Workshop: Managing NORM in Geothermal Installations

This workshop will bring together representatives from authorities, experts, and industry to discuss the effective management of NORM in geothermal installations. To add an artistic touch to the discussions, a real-time visualization by an artist will be presented, enhancing the overall experience.

  • Citizen Science in Radon & NORM

The session dedicated to citizen science initiatives will feature scientific presentations and discussions on ensuring the long-term sustainability of such initiatives. Join us to explore innovative approaches and practical solutions in this exciting field.

  • Societal Aspects of Radon and NORM

During this session, scientific presentations will delve into the societal aspects of radon and NORM. Additionally, there will be a reflection on how theories from the social sciences and humanities (SSH) can contribute to a better understanding of human behavior related to radon and NORM. Gain insights into the interdisciplinary nature of this subject and its impact on society.

  • Bridging SSH and Natural Science Perspectives

RadoNorm’s coordinator, Ulrike Kulka, and WP6 leader, Tanja Perko, will be actively participating in a discussion on bridging SSH and natural science perspectives in research and innovation. This engaging dialogue will showcase contributions, experiences, challenges, and lessons learned from SSH in various projects. RadoNorm will take this opportunity to present its holistic and transdisciplinary approach, fostering collaboration between different fields of study.

Registration for RICOMET2023 is now open, and we cordially invite you to join us at this prestigious event. Explore cutting-edge research, engage in insightful discussions, and be part of a vibrant community dedicated to advancing our understanding of radon and NORM.

The RICOMET team looks forward to welcoming you!
