The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) conducts independent scientific research in the field of Public Health, Health Services, Environmental Safety and Security. RIVM’s activities in the field of radiation protection include monitoring and surveillance of the level of radiation within the Netherlands, and crisis and incident management for nuclear or radiological accidents and incidents. RIVM provides advice for radiation protection policy development and carries out research on the effects of exposure to radiation on health. The institute periodically carries out surveys of radon levels in dwellings, workplaces and public buildings. The most recent of these have included measurements of thoron.
