The Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) is a research institution of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Free State of Bavaria. As German Research Center for Environmental Health, HMGU pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases, which develop from the interaction of lifestyle, environmental factors, and personal genetic background.

The Institute of Radiation Medicine (IRM) has a multidiscipline expert team with experience in radiation epidemiology, genetics, dosimetry, statistics and biologically-based risk modelling. The IRM has coordinated or contributed to many EU projects related to radiation research during the past two decades.
